EWS Tool Technologies, founded in 1960 in Germany, is a global leader in CNC tooling solutions, specializing in live tooling, static holders, and modular systems for turning and milling applications. In 2008, EWS expanded its international footprint by acquiring Command Tooling Systems, a respected U.S. toolholder manufacturer based in Ramsey, Minnesota. Today, EWS USA operates from the original Command facility, serving as the North American hub for manufacturing, sales, and support. In addition to producing Command-branded rotary toolholders, EWS USA delivers the full EWS product line and distributes precision boring tools from URMA, providing a comprehensive range of solutions for advanced machining.
Live Tooling
EWS offers a comprehensive portfolio of precision static and driven (live) tool holders for CNC lathes, engineered to meet the demands of high-performance machining. Designed for compatibility with a wide range of turret interfaces—including VDI, BMT, BOT, and DOH—EWS tooling supports virtually all major machine brands.
Live tools are available with axial, radial, and adjustable output configurations, and can be equipped with internal coolant channels for high-pressure through-spindle cooling. Each holder is manufactured to strict tolerances for rigidity, concentricity, and repeatability, delivering optimal performance in applications ranging from heavy-duty roughing to fine finishing.

Command Rotary Toolholders
Manufactured in the USA under the EWS umbrella, Command rotary toolholders are engineered for precision, balance, and durability in demanding machining environments. Available in a wide range of spindle interfaces—including CAT, BT, HSK, and Capto—Command holders support applications requiring high-speed milling, drilling, and tapping.
Each toolholder undergoes strict quality control processes, including G2.5 or G1.0 balancing for high-RPM applications, precision ground tapers, and rigid clamping systems to ensure optimal runout, repeatability, and surface finish. Command also offers shrink-fit, hydraulic, collet, and shell mill holders, as well as custom-engineered solutions tailored to specific machine or process requirements.

URMA boring SystemS
URMA precision boring systems, distributed through EWS USA, are modular tools designed to deliver exceptional surface finish, bore tolerance, and repeatability in a wide range of materials and industries. The URMA CircoTec line features indexable insert cartridges, offering fast tool changes and minimized machine downtime.
Modular shanks—including ABS, HSK, BT, and Cylindrical—allow for versatile setup and machine compatibility. URMA’s fine boring heads offer micrometric adjustment with a resolution down to 2 µm, enabling precise control over bore diameters. With balanced cutting geometries and coolant-through capabilities, URMA tools are ideal for high-precision applications in aerospace, automotive, moldmaking, and general machining.
